BU Softball Splits with Wingate University

BELMONT, NC--The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Belmont-Abbey on Thursday winning 11-3 and 6-1.

In game one, Bloomsburg scored the first nine runs of the game, scoring five times in the second, twice more in the third and two more in the fifth before the Abbey scored all three of its runs in the fifth.

The big blow in the second inning for the Huskies was a three-run homer off the bat of Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia), while Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) and Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) both had run scoring doubles. Neyhard also tripled in two runs in the third and had a run scoring single in the seventh. Hampton hit a two-run homer for Bloomsburg in the fifth. Overall, Neyhard and Hampton both had three hits and drove in three runs, while Shiko had two hits and three RBI.

Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) earned the win after working three scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out three.

In game two, Bloomsburg took a 3-0 lead in the second on a three-run homer by Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton). The Abbey cut the advantage to 3-1 in the fourth, but Bloomsburg got the run back in the top of the fifth on a single by Hampton and added two more in the seventh on a double by Emily Young (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) for the game's final runs. Young finished the game 3-4 with three RBI.

Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) earned the win, as she allowed an unearned run on six hits in a complete game effort. She struck out 10 and walked a pair.

Bloomsburg is now 10-2, while the Abbey falls to 6-23. The Huskies are scheduled to play at Fairmont State in West Virginia on Saturday.
